The cool box test
A barbecue is where an alcohol-free drink has to earn its place. It's hot, the coals are going, and nobody wants something sweet and flat.
You want cold, crisp and properly refreshing. And you want it to go with a burger. Here's what to put in the cool box.
The crisp lager
Below Brew Forgot To Take My Pils is a hoppy keller pilsner with bright citrus over a clean, biscuity base. Refreshing from the first sip to the last.
Or go light with Athletic Upside Dawn. It's a golden ale at 45 calories, lovely with grilled fish, or the first sunny Sunday of the year.
The fruity one
Brulo Five Fruit is a gose brewed with mango, passionfruit, guava, apricot and orange peel, with a pinch of sea salt. Tart, juicy and dangerously refreshing.
It's brilliant with fish tacos, or a hot day with your feet in the paddling pool. Browse more fruit beers and sours.
The pink one
No barbecue is complete without a bottle of rosé. Noughty Sparkling Rosé is organic, 0.0% and has nearly half the sugar of most alcohol-free fizz. Serve it really cold.

Barbecue tips
Chill everything the night before. Cans in the fridge, bottles in the fridge, and plenty of ice in the cool box on the day.
Plan for two or three drinks per person for an afternoon. Mix lagers, sours and a bottle of rosé so there's something for everyone.
And order a few days ahead. Orders ship in 2 to 3 working days, then Royal Mail does the rest.
Load up for less
Mix any 6 drinks and get 5% off, 12 for 10%, 24 for 15%. Wine gets 10% off 6 bottles. Build a beer box or a wine box and fill the cool box properly.
