Kev's guide to alcohol-free cider
Good questions
Is there a 0.0% cider?
Yes. Two Farmers Medium Dry is 0.0%, made with Herefordshire apples and no added sugar. 0.0% means no alcohol at all. In the UK, anything at 0.5% or under counts as alcohol free. We show the exact ABV on every drink. Chance Clean is 0.5%. Our zero collection has every 0.0% drink we sell.
How is alcohol-free cider made?
Usually it's made as a normal cider first, then the alcohol is taken out, so the apple flavour has a chance to develop. Chance start with an award-winning 8.2% cider and carefully bring it down to 0.5%. Two Farmers use cold filtration to gently take the alcohol out while keeping the flavour in. Different methods, both a lot more effort than adding water to apple juice.
Is alcohol-free cider gluten free?
Apples don't contain gluten, but always check the label, because some ciders are made or packed alongside beer. Both of our single ciders are gluten free. Chance Clean is also labelled coeliac suitable and vegan, and Two Farmers is vegan and gluten free. If you're coeliac, read the details on each product page before you order.
Is alcohol-free cider sweet?
It varies, just like regular cider. Two Farmers is medium dry with no added sugar, sweetened only with apple juice, so it's naturally sweet and a bit tart. Chance Clean is crisper, with citrus, pineapple and a little woodiness, and comes in at 53 calories. If you like a properly dry cider, the mixed bundle is picked to include one.
What is the British Cider Triangle?
It's the nickname for the cider heartland of Herefordshire, Worcestershire and Gloucestershire, where a lot of Britain's best cider apples grow. Both of our ciders come from there. Chance use Dabinett, Michelin, Vicky and Fiona apples from the Triangle, and Two Farmers use local Herefordshire apples. Yorkshire has many fine qualities. Cider orchards on that scale isn't one of them.
