Here's something nobody expected. A lot of alcohol-free beer is seriously low in calories. Some cans have fewer calories than a digestive biscuit.
Not that I'd know how many calories are in a digestive. I've never stopped at one long enough to check.
Here are the lightest beers in our range, ranked lightest first. All 0.5% or under, and all calories per can, straight from the brewer.
1. Northern Monk Faith: 26 calories
Faith is a silky hazy pale from Leeds, with lemongrass, citrus and a light peppery finish. 26 calories for a 330ml can. Yorkshire wins again. Obviously.
2. Below Brew The Cosmic Turtle: 44 calories
A big juicy NEIPA, mango and passionfruit, and only 44 calories for a 440ml can. The Cosmic Turtle sounds like a 1970s prog rock album. Tastes much better.
3. Athletic Upside Dawn: 45 calories
Upside Dawn is a clean golden ale. 355ml can, gluten free and vegan. The official drink of people who've swapped hangovers for five-hour runs. Still out the game. Still very low calorie.
4. vandeStreek Funhouse: 46 calories
Funhouse is juicy and creamy with almost no bitterness. Mango, pineapple, citrus. 330ml can.
5. Brulo Five Fruit: 56 calories
Five Fruit is a tart, salty gose with mango, passionfruit, guava, apricot and orange. 330ml can. Five fruits. That's practically one of your five a day. (It isn't. Please don't quote me.)
6. Fierce Beer 1983: 75 calories
1983 is a crisp golden lager in a 440ml can.
7. Below Brew Forgot To Take My Pils: 97 calories
Forgot To Take My Pils is a hoppy keller pilsner. A bit more body, still under 100 calories for 440ml.
The deal bit
Mix any 6 drinks and get 5% off, up to 15% for 24. More weeknight ideas in our weeknight swap guide.
The serious bit
Calories aren't everything. Cans come in different sizes, so compare like for like, and what you eat alongside matters too. Every drink shows its exact ABV. And no, beer isn't one of your five a day.
